The parrotbills have been placed in the Sylviidae family, but the Clements Checklist now places them in its own family. The Wrentit and Fulvetta's of genus Fulvetta are also in the parrotbill family. Don Roberson has an excellent discussion about Paradoxornithidae.

The Vinous-throated Parrotbill is a relatively small and long-tailed parrotbill. It has brown upperparts; pinkish-cream upper-breast; creamy-buff belly merging with the breast; brown streaks on throat; rufous brown crown, forehead; pale gray eyes; gray or brown bill with paler or yellow tip; graduated tail (see image 1).
Similar to: Spectacled Parrotblil. The shapes of these parrotbills are similar. Their similar bills have evolved for bamboo habitats.
